Los Angeles has several large health systems that run endocrinology services, plus two county hospitals and Kaiser Permanente. This page sets out what each institution's own pages say: where endocrine patients are seen, what areas they emphasize and how to make first contact. It is not a ranking, and listing a place here is not a recommendation.
Phone numbers and addresses below were copied from the linked official pages at the time of our research. Clinics move and numbers change. Before you travel, confirm on the source page and check with your plan that the clinic takes your coverage.
| Institution | Where endocrine patients are seen | Stated focus or feature | First contact |
|---|---|---|---|
| UCLA Health | Outpatient clinics in Westwood, Santa Monica, Porter Ranch, Thousand Oaks, Torrance, Santa Clarita and Westlake Village | Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism | Scheduling line (310) 825-7922 |
| Cedars-Sinai | Anna and Max Webb & Family Diabetes Outpatient Treatment & Education Center for diabetes care | Diabetes and Obesity Research Institute; endocrinology fellowship | Diabetes specialty page linked below |
| Keck Medicine of USC | Keck Hospital of USC; USC/Norris Cancer Hospital; LA General; Beverly Hills office | USC Pituitary Center with a multi-specialty team | (800) USC-CARE; Beverly Hills (310) 272-8222 |
| LA General Medical Center | Outpatient endocrine clinics twice a week | One clinic more focused on pituitary disease | Through your DHS medical home; main line (323) 409-1000 |
| Harbor-UCLA Medical Center | County Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism | Reproductive endocrinology; intermediary metabolism and diabetes | Through your DHS medical home |
| Kaiser Permanente LAMC | Endocrinology/Diabetes/Rheumatology department | Combined department | Through your Kaiser coverage and care team |
UCLA Health
UCLA Health has a division page for its Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism and a separate endocrinology services page written for patients. The services side is the better starting point if you're looking for an appointment.
UCLA's patient resources page says its endocrinologists see hospital patients at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, UCLA Santa Monica Medical Center and St. John's Medical Center. The same page notes that St. John's is not a UCLA hospital.
UCLA outpatient endocrinology locations
- Westwood
- Santa Monica
- Porter Ranch
- Thousand Oaks
- Torrance
- Santa Clarita
- Westlake Village
That spread means patients north and west of the city and in Torrance have options outside Westwood. UCLA lists a scheduling line, (310) 825-7922, on the patient resources page. Confirm which location your plan covers before you book.
UCLA endocrinologists see patients at St. John's Medical Center, but UCLA states that St. John's is not a UCLA hospital. If you're admitted or tested there, ask how your coverage applies and where your records will be kept, so they can follow you back to your clinic.
Cedars-Sinai
Cedars-Sinai's diabetes specialty page says its endocrinology program runs diabetes care through the Anna and Max Webb & Family Diabetes Outpatient Treatment & Education Center. The same page notes that Cedars-Sinai has a Diabetes and Obesity Research Institute.
Cedars-Sinai also trains endocrinologists. Its Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism fellowship is listed in the AMA's FREIDA database as program ID 1430511092 (AMA FREIDA). At any teaching center, it's reasonable to ask who will be part of your visit and which physician oversees your care.
Keck Medicine of USC
The Keck School of Medicine's Division of Endocrinology and Diabetes says its clinical work takes place at three sites: Los Angeles General Medical Center, Keck Hospital of USC and USC/Norris Cancer Hospital (patient care page).
- Keck Hospital of USC: 1500 San Pablo Street, Los Angeles, CA 90033, phone (800) USC-CARE (Keck Medicine of USC).
- Beverly Hills office: 9033 Wilshire Blvd., Suite 300, Beverly Hills, CA 90211, phone (310) 272-8222. USC's location search lists 8 results for endocrinology (USC Internal Medicine locations).
- USC Pituitary Center: treats pituitary disease with a team drawn from several specialties (Keck Medicine of USC).
If your referral is about the pituitary, ask your referring doctor and Keck whether it should go to the Pituitary Center rather than a general endocrinology clinic.
Los Angeles General Medical Center
LA General is part of the LA County Department of Health Services. USC's endocrinology division reports that it runs outpatient endocrine clinics there twice a week, and that one of them focuses more on pituitary disease (Keck School of Medicine of USC).
At LA General, all care, specialist visits included, is coordinated through the patient's medical home (LA General patient services). So the place to start is your medical home, not the endocrine clinic itself. The hospital's main number is (323) 409-1000.
Harbor-UCLA Medical Center
Harbor-UCLA, also a county DHS hospital, has its own Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism. The division lists reproductive endocrinology and intermediary metabolism and diabetes among its focus areas, and it offers a two-year clinical fellowship. A faculty page lists the division's physicians.
As at other DHS facilities, specialist care is coordinated through your medical home. If you're a county patient, ask your primary care team which county endocrine clinic your referral will go to.
Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Medical Center
Kaiser's Los Angeles Medical Center lists Endocrinology/Diabetes/Rheumatology as a single department (Kaiser Permanente). If you're a Kaiser member, the route in starts with your Kaiser care team. If you're not, ask Kaiser and your own plan directly before assuming you can be seen there.
U.S. News ranks Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Medical Center #18 in California and #10 in Los Angeles in its regional hospital ranking (U.S. News). A regional ranking describes a whole hospital. It doesn't tell you how a particular endocrine clinic works, whether it takes your coverage or how soon it can see you. This guide doesn't rank institutions.
Matching a center to your situation
There's no single right answer. These questions are practical ones to raise with your plan and your referring doctor.
| If this describes you | Start by asking |
|---|---|
| You have Medi-Cal and get care at county facilities | Your DHS medical home about a referral to endocrinology at LA General or Harbor-UCLA |
| You're a Kaiser member | Your Kaiser care team about the LA Medical Center's endocrinology department |
| Your referral is about the pituitary | Whether it should go to a pituitary-focused service, such as the USC Pituitary Center or LA General's pituitary-focused clinic |
| Your main concern is diabetes care and education | Whether your plan covers Cedars-Sinai's Webb center or another diabetes program |
| You live far from Westwood | Which UCLA outpatient location or Keck office is closest and in your network |
| You have an HMO or PPO | Your plan which of these systems is in network and whether a referral is needed |
Before you call any clinic
- Confirm your coverageKnow whether you have Medi-Cal, a Covered California plan, an HMO, a PPO or Kaiser. The coverage and referral guide explains each route.
- Have the referral readyIf your plan needs one, confirm it has been sent and note any reference number.
- Gather your recordsLabs, imaging reports, device data and a medication list. See the first visit checklist.
- Check the doctorOnce you have a name, look up the California license and ABIM certification. The home page shows how.
Frequently asked questions
Is St. John's Medical Center part of UCLA Health?
No. UCLA endocrinologists see patients there, but UCLA's own patient resources page says St. John's is not a UCLA hospital.
Where does Keck Medicine of USC see endocrine patients?
USC's pages list Keck Hospital of USC, USC/Norris Cancer Hospital and LA General Medical Center, plus an office at 9033 Wilshire Blvd., Suite 300, in Beverly Hills.
Can I call LA General's endocrine clinic directly?
LA General says all care, including specialist visits, is coordinated through your medical home. Start with your primary care team there. The hospital's main number is (323) 409-1000.
Which LA centers describe a pituitary focus?
Keck runs the USC Pituitary Center with a multi-specialty team. One of the twice-weekly endocrine clinics at LA General focuses more on pituitary disease.
Does Kaiser's LA Medical Center have endocrinology?
Yes. Its department list includes a combined Endocrinology/Diabetes/Rheumatology department. Access depends on your Kaiser coverage, so start with your Kaiser care team.
Why doesn't this guide rank the centers?
A ranking can't account for your coverage, location or condition, and this guide takes no paid placements. We describe what each institution says about itself and link to the source.
